Victoria is the capital city of Canada’s western-most province, British Columbia, and home to 366,000 residents. It is on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, and is quickly and easily accessible from the mainland via airplanes, helicopters, and car and passenger ferries.
Victorians enjoy the most temperate climate in the country, with rare winter snowfall and average summer temperatures of around 21º C. With just enough rainfall to keep our grass green and flowers blooming, residents can spend much of their time outdoors; indeed, one of the main reasons people move to the “City of Gardens” is for the climate.
Victoria boasts one of the healthiest populations in Canada (second only to nearby Vancouver). Residents are never far from access to the Pacific Ocean, beaches, lakes, forests, mountains, trails, parks, golf courses---endless opportunities abound for the outdoor enthusiast! Mt. Washington, the biggest ski resort on Vancouver Island, is a three-hour drive north, and world-class fishing in Sooke is less than an hour away.
As the second-largest city in the province, every urban convenience is here. Several high-profile festivals run throughout the year, and the arts scene is thriving.
With one of the highest-educated populations in the country, Victoria offers excellent public and private schools, the prestigious
University of Victoria (with 18,000 students per year) and many other post-secondary institutions and trade schools.
Victoria’s main industries of employment include tourism, advanced technologies, and government, but people of all professions and interests thrive in this city.
